The fixation stability of bone fragments to static and cyclic axial loadings were investigatedAbstract
This paper presents the biomechanical background of different fixation methods performed on simulated, unstable intertrochanteric hip fractures. There were used two types of fixation: by endoprosthesis pedicle and DHS plate. The fixation stability of bone fragments to static and cyclic axial loadings were investigated. The results demonstrated more high stiffness of fixation with the use of total hip cement arthroplasty combined with additional wire mesh, that is biomechanically superior to DHS plates’ fixation of unstable intertrochanteric hip fractures. The stiffness of fixation with the use of total hip cement arthroplasty is closed to stiffness of an uninjured bone under 400N loading.Downloads
